About Gary .

Gary Rivers is heard each weekday from 10am until 12 Noon on News/Talk 1480 WHBC

Prior to being named the host of this show, Gary co-hosted the Canton’s Morning News  with Pam Cook on the same station for the three previous years.  His first broadcast was on Monday, December 2, 2013.

Earlier, Gary was Operations Manager for a radio station group based in Delaware, Ohio.  He operated WVXG-FM in Marion-Mt. Gilead, Oh and WQTT-AM in Marysville, Ohio.

In addition to his duties as OM, Gary recently took on the role of host of a new morning show at Classic Rock 95.1 FM.  “Mid-Ohio’s Morning Show” features Gary, along with two co-hosts — Guy and Michelle!

In a previous life, Gary was the host of a top-rated morning radio show on My 101.7 Fm in Canton, Ohio.

Gary’s philosophy, on-air and behind-the-scenes is the same:   Give back to the community, and it gives back to you.  That’s why his show always included interviews with local newsmakers.  If it’s happening in the the listening area, Gary believes that radio personalities should talk about it.    And — it’s never about doing the same feature or bit over and over again — it’s about always looking for new and creative ways to reach and affect your core audience.  Make noise!  Lead— never follow!

Gary has over 25 years of professional commercial radio broadcast experience, in almost every phase of the business; from On-Air Morning Personality; and Program Director, Production, Promotions; General Manager

Prior to Canton, Gary’s had stints as the Morning announcer and Program Director of 97.5 WDCM-FM Marion, OH , 94.1 WHBC-FM Canton, OH..and several other radio broadcast properties in Ohio, Tennessee and Nebraska.

In addition to Radio, his community and tourism involvement has been extensive. Before calling Canton his home, Gary was active in the Marion, Ohio area for over ten years. Named, United Way of Marion Citizen of the Year, Gary founded and directed the Annual Saturday in the Park Family Festival. His community work included terms on the following Boards: Salvation Army, Celebrate Summer Arts Festival, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, American Red Cross and D.A.R.E.

Earlier, in Portsmouth, Ohio, Gary was Director of the local Convention and Visitors Bureau; He spent some time as the Marketing and Sales Director for the Shawnee State Park Lodge.

In addition to broadcasting and tourism, Gary was co-owner of a web site design business; designing sites and planning media strategies.
